Lesson 2 (I)

Sunday, 1st December

For the second lesson, we thought of a fun way to teach kids how to ask and answer simple questions about fruits in Spanish. The focus would be on getting them to confidently use phrases like “¿Te gusta(n)…?” (Do you like…?) and “Me gusta(n)…” (I like…).

So the objective for Lesson 2 are:

I am learning to ask and answer questions about fruits in Spanish.

Here’s how it goes:

Opening Phase

We’d kick things off using the interactive whiteboard to introduce two key phrases: “Me gusta(n)” (I like) and “Te gusta(n)” (Do you like?). To make it super clear, we’d pair these phrases with fruit images. For example, the teacher could point to themselves and say “Me gustan las manzanas” (I like apples) and then point to the class with “¿Te gustan las manzanas?” (Do you like apples?). Adding visuals like fruit pictures helps the kids connect the Spanish words to something real.

The Digital Wheel Spinner

Now, to make it more interactive, we’d bring in the digital wheel spinner app. Here you have the link to it: https://spinthewheel.app/. First, the teacher would show how it works on the big screen and ask the kids to help brainstorm fruit names in Spanish to add to the wheel. If they get stuck, we could show some flashcards or suggest ideas like “manzana” (apple), “plátano” (banana), or “naranja” (orange).

Once the wheel is ready, we’d spin it to land on a random fruit. Let’s say it lands on “fresa” (strawberry). The teacher would then ask the class:
“¿Te gustan las fresas?” (Do you like strawberries?).

The students could raise their hands to answer either “Sí, me gustan…” (Yes, I like them) or “No, no me gustan…” (No, I don’t like them). This way, they’re practicing both asking and answering in Spanish. Plus, the wheel spinner adds an element of surprise and fun, which keeps the kids engaged.
