We want our kids to learn how to handle real life situations in the foreign language through a fun and hands-on way of learning, and as a result, this unit is going to follow Project-Based Learning (PBL). The whole idea is make it possible to explore and solve a challenge in the following stages:
Project Selection
Why this project? What's the point?
We’re focusing on a topic that’s very useful – how to communicate in Spanish in real-life situations. Being able to speak more than one language is a vital skill for kids. The goal is for them to make a podcast in Spanish about fruits, where they can share opinions, ask and answer questions, and talk about amounts.
Preparation
What do we need to do? How do we solve it?
To make the podcast, the kids need to know how to have a conversation in Spanish. So, each lesson will focus on a different skill they need:
- Lesson 1: Expressing opinions
- Lesson 2: Asking and answering questions
- Lesson 3: Talking about quantity
Implementation
How do we make it happen?
The kids will work together to figure out how to use Spanish in everyday situations. They'll show what they've learned by creating a podcast. They’ll write out a conversation, inlcuding opinions, questions, and quantities – basically everything they practiced in the preparation stage.
Evaluation
Was it useful? What did we learn?
At the end, the kids will present their podcasts to the class and teacher. Then, everyone will reflect on the project, checking if the goals were reached and what they’ve learned along the way.
